Broadband Internet to people that live in the country

There are some critics to President Obama's plan to bring broadband internet services to people living in rural areas. The gist of the critics is that people in rural areas do not want internet service. The argument is laid out here in this article posted on Fox News http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/03/02/obamas-high-speed-internet-plan-broadband-boondoggle/

To me, I don't think the question should be restricted to whether or not people in rural areas want broadband internet in private homes, but whether or not the we should expand broadband to rural areas. I think we should since people will use the service if it is available and more business' will be able to expand with high speed internet. There is nothing forcing those people in rural areas to use broadband internet, but by not having it in those areas the people that do want to use it are being punished. Look at it this way, when electric was moved into those areas, not all people wanted it, but they eventually all used it.
